About Niemerg's Steakhouse

Niemerg’s first opened its doors on September 1, 1978, led by two 23-year-old high school classmates with big dreams and a strong work ethic. What began with a team of 20 has grown into a family of 175 dedicated members — including employees who’ve been with us for over 35 years and even third-generation staff carrying on the tradition.

We still cook the same way we did in 1978 — from scratch, just like Grandma taught us. From our famous made-in-house salads, dressings, and daily specials to our fresh-baked pies (over 1,000 each week!), every dish gets the care and attention it deserves.

Niemerg’s is known for its Iowa Premium Beef steaks, hand-cut in-house, and our legendary fried chicken, breaded in our secret family recipe and fried to golden perfection — serving up more than 15,000 pieces every week.

For more than 45 years, we’ve proudly served the Effingham community, welcoming over 34 million guests through our doors. We’re grateful for your loyalty and support — and we look forward to sharing great food and warm hospitality with you for many years to come.
