About Ma Deeter's Restaurant & Tavern

Ma Deeter’s is a historic log cabin bar and restaurant located in Luzerne, Michigan, originally opened in 1921 by Anna (known as Ma Deeter) and William Deeter. It quickly became a beloved destination for both travelers passing through and local residents. The original spot was situated just a block north of town, in a small crossroads community along M-72 between Grayling and Mio. Over the years, it grew popular with hunters, snowmobilers, and outdoor enthusiasts using the Michigan Shore-to-Shore trail.

Unfortunately, the original log building was destroyed by a devastating fire in 2015, marking a significant loss for the community. Despite this setback, Ma Deeter’s was rebuilt with an investment of over half a million dollars and has since reopened. The new establishment honors the legacy and charm of the original, with many longtime staff members returning to continue the tradition.
