About Big Stick BBQ

Rick’s BBQ journey began in 2007 when his kids surprised him with his first smoker—a Christmas gift that quickly turned a hobby into a lifelong passion. What started with one smoker grew into a collection (at one point five in the garage), though he’s now down to three—much to his wife Linda’s relief.

Rick is known for his attention to detail and commitment to doing things the right way, even if it means starting the fire at 2 AM to prepare for the day. Inspired by great Texas pitmasters, his motto has always been “Low and Slow.” Every dish, from the smoked meats to the sides, is made fresh daily with quality ingredients.

For Rick, BBQ isn’t just food—it’s an art form. When he and Linda aren’t serving from the Big Stick BBQ truck, you can find them enjoying local restaurants, hosting friends, or wine tasting near their home in Bellingham, Washington, surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
